DARK MATTER II

These were meant to be more regular, but best laid plans etc.

I had a first recently - I fulfilled the stereotype of writing in my pants. It was emotional.

Moving on - we were foolishly/naively hoping that we’d be able to launch the sequel to our DARK MATTER anthology (imaginatively titled DARK MATTER II) at this year’s Thought Bubble Festival on the 5th/6th November, but alas, we weren’t able to get a table. (I’m still planning on being there, due to the promise of alcohol and also the launch of the most excellent BRITISH SHOWCASE VOL 2 from Markosia. Edited by horror maestro Adam Cheal, we had a preview copy sent out to us the other day and holy shit it looks incredible; there’s some amazing stories in there and I’m very proud to be a part of this.)

Plus, come on, that cover’s worth the price of admission alone, right?

However, myself and the C2I boys have managed to bag a couple of tables at Birmingham MCM on the 19th/20th November, which means that the DARK MATTER II launch is OFFICIAL and will be taking place that weekend.

So, with that, I thought it worth sharing a few things from the book all in one place, rather all over different social media and showcasing some of the superb creators we’ve got onboard for the ride.

Here’s another sneak peek from THE ROLLOVER:

To say too much about this might spoil it, but it’s got time travel in it and some stuff happens with some stuff. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the way this one’s come together and it’s all down to the super-team of Paul Moore (PLANET OF THE DAEMONS) and Charlie Hogg (TORSOBEAR, SHIT FLINGERS), who are both on fire with their output of work at the moment.

You can find more of Paul’s work here and more of Charlie’s work here.

Randy’s posted some of this already, but here’s another sneaky look at STAY WITH ME:

It’s an ‘AI gone rogue’ tale set on a space station in 21-something and has been illustrated by the superb Randy Haldeman, who I had the pleasure of meeting on a Facebook group, where we collaborated on a one page short based on Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith’s 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. Randy smashed it out of the park and has done the same here.

You can find more of Randy’s work here and follow him on Instagram here.

STAY WITH ME has been lettered by the esteemed Ken Reynolds, who is a most excellent dude and whose comic COGNITION you need to get your grubby mitts on. Ken is also the editor of the excellent free anthology SLICED QUARTERLY that you can download here.

Talking of Ken, there’s two stories in the anthology that have been published before in various guises - FINE DINING and THE LAST BATCH.

FINE DINING was illustrated by small press/indie knight in shining armour Jim Lavery, a man who has credits in every conceivable small press/indie anthology out there and is a pleasure to work with, as was colourist Aljosa Tomic, who did an amazing job on this and most recently SECRET IDENTITY in the BRITISH SHOWCASE vol. 2.

THE LAST BATCH was illustrated by Dan Cornwell, who is currently illustrating the John Wagner and Alan Grant penned ROK OF THE REDS, a tale of an alien who inhabits the body of a talented yet troubled football star. It’s a lot of fun and Dan is absolutely nailing it on every issue.

The inimitable Mr Matt Harrower is working on a short called UNSPOKEN, a cyberpunk(ish) story in a similar vein to STAY WITH ME. Matt started sharing some of this the other day, so here’s a little inked taster:

Matt’s a super-talented fella; check out his work here.

Last, but no means least, here’s a sneaky look at the inks from CERULEAN SKY, a short crime thriller from co-conspirator Chris Travell. Chris has a new Facebook page up and running, by the way, at www.facebook.com/christravellart. He’ll post on it at some point. He’s given me admin access, too, so if he doesn’t post on it, I’m going to fill it with my art. And those who have seen my art efforts in the past have just collectively thrown up in their mouths.

We’ve also got some amazing pinup art ready to roll that we’ll be sharing soon and, of course, the cover.

Keep an eye out on my Facebook page and the C2I page for more incoming art shares and be sure to check out the above links.
